Inspirational Words

About 10 years ago I was “introduced” to Zig Ziglar.  Zig Ziglar became the top sales person in several organizations before striking out on his own as a motivational speaker and trainer. With a Southern charm and lessons grounded in Christianity, Ziglar wrote over two dozen books and encouraged millions by his lessons for success.  During the time I was making a life changing decision to leave Nursing and start my own business, I found this particular quote to be my overall motivator.

“You will look back in life and either say, I wish I had, or, I’m glad I did.”

A few others I find fantastic as well!

“Remember that failure is an event, not a person.”

“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”

“If you can dream it, you can achieve it.”

Makeup Tips for the Bride to Be!

Team Beauti’s “Bride-to-Be” Makeup Tips

I love to flip through magazines and stare at the beautiful makeup the models are wearing, and I personally wonder, “Why can’t I look like that?!”  You too???  Here are a few tips to looking your greatest on a special day (or everyday for that matter) whether you are doing it yourself or hiring a professional. I encourage you to be a part of every decision if going with a professional artist to create your look. It’s important you feel comfortable with the products and what best suits you. There is nothing better than a decisive bride. That leads me to your first tip.

1. Find inspirational pictures of your favorite bridal makeup looks. Bring them in or keep them stored in a journal. Just like you plan everything else for your wedding, make sure you also take the time to find a great makeup artist.  Do your research and read testimonials from former brides. If you’re planning to do your own makeup, make sure you take the time to recognize your skin tone and texture so you properly invest in products that compliment your skin!

2. Finding the right products that go great with your skin also means feeling comfortable while wearing them. Choosing a foundation can be very intimidating. Just remember, if you rarely wear foundation, or any makeup for that matter, I suggest you wear a very light formula such as tinted moisturizer or BB cream.  Below is a picture of one of my favorite lightweight formulas.

3. How to pick a blush or bronzer that will still give you a natural look?  Go for exactly that!  Make sure the bronzer is very soft and is not a deep brown and when picking blush, go for a “flushed” color.  You can’t go wrong with a light pink or coral color!

4. Wear a waterproof mascara!

5. Lips- Team Beauti loves to use a lip stain because it is guranteed to give you great color and literally lasts all day…and then some!  We use Revlon Color Stay Lip Stain and they have a ton of shades to choose from. Go ahead and start experimenting!

6. What products to bring with you during your special day?

– Translucent Powder or blotting papers (to remove excess oil)

– Lip Gloss (to retouch your stain and give it a luminous effect)

Summer Makeup Tips

Summer Makeup Tips

It’s officially summer! This calls for cool refreshments, pool time and beach parties! Want to head out looking awesome? Once summer hits, having makeup stay on where you put it gets alot harder. Here are some quick makeup tips on how to stop it from melting away!

Primer ~

Primer is a must-have year round but most important during the summer. This will ensure that your foundation and blush last longer. You apply primer after you have washed and mositurized your face. (Tip: If you have acne prone skin choose an oil-free face primer)
Apply a pea sized amount to your fingertips and distribute product throughout your forehead, cheeks and chin.

Base ~

Instead of reaching for your heavy foundation, try something more lightweight. Go for a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. Either are lovely to use because it feels like you have nothing on and it also evens out your skin tone and adds a touch of radiance. If you choose foundation instead, choose one that contains silicone.  This will help prevent it from melting when things start to heat up.

Blush/Bronzer ~

Exchange your powder blush/bronzer to a gel or cream. Sheer creams, liquids and gel sink into the skin so they dont appear “cakey” like powder can.

Eyes ~

Regular mascara can melt in the heat! Opt for waterproof formulas instead!

How to Create Perfect Eyebrows

“My brows are too bushy!” “My brows are too thin!” I have only met a few ladies who are actually happy with their brows!  Brows are so important. They “frame” the face. “Well-arched, groomed brows play a role in balancing features, like your eyes, nose, forehead and the length of your face,” explains Beverly Hills-based eyebrow expert Anastasia Soare, who has groomed celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox and Jennifer Lopez.

How do I create perfect eyebrows?

1) Place a pencil next to the side of your nose; line the pencil straight up and down. Directly above the pencil is where the brow should start. Hairs that are on the inner side of the pencil, towards the top of the nose, need to be removed. If hair is lacking on the other side of the pencil, where the eyebrow start, mark the area with a brow pencil as a guide to fill in that area.

2) Take the pencil and keep the bottom of it in place, pivot it outward so it lines up with the outer edge of your eye. This is where the eyebrow should end.

3) Take the pencil and pivot it back towards the outer edge of your pupil. This is where the brow should arch.  Mark it so you know where to tweeze a bit more when you get to the area.

4) Once the shape is determined, decide which technique works best for you. There are brow pencils, brow palettes, brow mascara etc. No matter which technique you are using, make sure you are using “feathery strokes” so that is appears very natural.

Here is a trick of the trade for creating perfect eyebrows:

Brush a clear or brown shade of mascara through the eyebrows (wipe with a tissue prior to remove any excess).   This creates definition and determines where the eyebrows need to be filled in, if at all.   If you see space/skin behind the hairs and want to fill them in, use a pencil or angled brush with powder and apply with a light, feathery touch. Using two colors makes the overall look more natural.   Brunettes, use light brown and dark brown. Blondes, use blonde and light brown. If you have dark hair, use dark brown and black. Play until you achieve the look you love!

Airbrush Makeup vs. Traditional Makeup

Airbrush or Traditional Makeup Application?

As a professional makeup artist in the industry, I get this question quite often…”What’s the difference between airbrush makeup and traditional makeup?”  The answer is BIG!  When you’re having your makeup done professionally for an occasion, such as a wedding, your picture is going to be taken countless times for numerous hours, airbrush makeup is the answer to your prayers.

Airbrush makeup comes as water based, alcohol based or silicone based.  Water based has a matte finish and silicone based has a dewy finish.  Alcohol based is generally used for tattoo coverage and not flattering to the face.  In my experiences, I have found that all formulas last approximately 14 hours, is sweat proof and can be relatively waterproof.  Airbrush makeup goes on with an air compressor which, when done correctly,  should not appear “cakey” or heavy and should leave a flawless finish.  In fact, many of my clients have said that it doesn’t even feel like they are wearing makeup.  Check out the gallery of photos on – the majority of those girls have been airbrushed.

Traditional makeup is your typical liquid foundation.  It’s applied with the artists’ fingers, sponge or brush.   The application, regardless of technique, tends to have a heavier feel and look.  It has a lasting power of approximately 8 hours and most brands are not sweat proof or waterproof.  In fact, many brands of traditional makeup have an SPF which does not photograph well.  It often leaves the subject looking “pasty” or “ghost-like”.

The best way to find out which type of makeup is best suited for your skin, call me and we can set up a makeup consultation.  As the owner and instructor of Team Beauti, I specialize in airbrush makeup application and can help you make the best choice for you.

Team Beauti ~ Our Reputation Ranks!

Team Beauti and its reputation speaks for itself.  With 20 talented professionals, we can provide our services to all the “brides to be” in South Florida!

Read this email sent to us from Elaine, our 4/26/14 bride:

First, Ashley Davis, Team Beauti Hair Stylist – she’s amazing! She is the consummate hair professional never losing her cool. She was patient and kind and awesome. I LOVED how my hair design looked and felt on my wedding day. The first pull back we tried didn’t look right and she didn’t miss a beat keeping me comfortable and assured. Looking back at my engagement pictures, I know why I was so confident with Ashley. She’s terrific.

Next, Mary Bruggeman, Team Beauti Hair Stylist – Mary was meant to be with us. We had a medical emergency, as you know – my young niece had a seizure early Saturday morning. Mary shared her personal connection and kept us calm and hopeful. She was an angel and I was grateful she was there. Mary did my sister Amy’s hair and other nieces. She was kind and compassionate and talented. She and Ashley smartly advised us when we wondered if Amy’s early curls were too curly – by the end of the night Amy’s waves were super and sexy. Amy’s gorgeous hair style added to her stunning beauty.

And what could I say about Deb Hoefl, Team Beauti Makeup Artist – no wonder she’s your best friend. She was simply the best! All three of us – my mom, my sister, and me – felt stunning!! Deb was the beating heart of our time together. We were radiant because of Deb. Her radiance came with us all night.

I loved Team Beauti, loved getting to know you, and absolutely look forward to recommending your services again.
Hope to see you soon,

Proud of the team I have created!

Mini “Beauti” Haul

Recently, I went to the store purposely to buy some shower gel and just like every other woman, we can’t just go to the store without leaving with some beauty products. I couldn’t resist. But…instead of splurging I only bought what I really needed. Here are some of the goodies that I bought and tried and I must say, I love them!

Cover Girl Whipped Crème Foundation:  A little goes a long way with this product. Just tap a little on your foundation sponge or brush and blend away. You can keep applying the product until you have the desired coverage you like. This product is great for on the go or a night out with your girls.

Josie Maran Argan Oil Moisturizer:  What I love about this moisturizer is how hydrated it leaves the skin. Being that I got the Light Moisturizer, if you have oily skin it won’t leave it any oilier. This product is great for daytime or if you want to use it as a night repair for your skin.

Blotting sheets:  I tend to carry blotting sheets everywhere I go. It’s very beneficial to carry these because we all have the potential to get a little oily or sweaty during the day and instead of adding more powder and product to the face we can just use these sheets to wipe away any unwanted oil.

NYC Big Bold Mascara:  If you have small lashes or even if you have long beautiful eyelashes and want to make them even longer, this mascara is for you! The best part about it; it’s only $2.99!

Wet N Wild Lip Stain: This is a go-to product for every woman! This lip stain not only gives you great color but it lasts all day! If you’re like me and hate reapplying lipstick then you need to buy a couple of these. The company has about 4 different shades so go ahead try them all out ladies!

Spring Time Glow

“A woman’s guide to shine bright!”

March 20th is officially the 1st day of spring, but why wait until the official day to get your glow on?!  Here’s the scoop on how you can achieve it without doing anything drastic & most of all, still look like yourself!

Tips: Moisturizer or illuminator

Using a moisturizer underneath your makeup can give a dewy look to your skin.  Or, opt for an illuminator that you can mix with your tinted moisturizer and apply all over face.

Here are some of products that will do the trick:

Moisturizer:  Embryolisse L a’te- Crème Concentrè ($28)

Illuminator:  Nyx illuminator

To finish off the look,  wear a lip gloss to add extra shine to those puckers. And let’s not forget about your hair! Thanks to Lupita Nyong’o, for bringing back headbands!! This will give you a youthful look without looking like your 4 years old.  Then…To make your day even brighter, just remember to smile 🙂

Good Luck,

~ Team Beauti
